Choice-Centered Therapy
At Root and River Collective, LLC, therapy is grounded in body awareness, relational safety, community, and the belief that restoring your sense of agency is at the heart of healing.
Healing begins with the ability to choose
"In this space, nothing is required. Everything is an invitation."

-
Community Membership
More than a session — a community
Healing doesn't happen in a single hour a week. It happens in the spaces between — in connection, in rhythm, in showing up over time. Membership is built around that understanding.
OUR PERSPECTIVE
What happened to you — not what's wrong with you
Trauma often disrupts a person's sense of agency. Many mental health symptoms are not disorders in isolation — they are adaptive responses of a nervous system shaped by overwhelming experience.
Rather than asking "what is wrong with you?", we ask "what happened to you?" This shift changes everything about how we listen, how we work, and what healing looks like.
● Anxiety as chronic threat detection
● Depression as nervous system shutdown
● Dysregulation as an injury, not a character flaw
● Symptoms as meaningful adaptations — not failures
What Grounds Our Work
-
Community
Connection is why we are here. Healing happens in relationship with the self and with others.
-
Choice
Your autonomy is central to the work. Nothing is required — everything is offered.
-
Body Awareness
Healing happens not just through thinking, but through noticing internal experience.
-
Safety Through Agency
Safety is built when people can respond, move, and choose freely.
Healing doesn't require forcing change.
Sometimes it begins with something much smaller: noticing, pausing, choosing, connecting.
